Im 28 and dont really have a whole going for me. I think it would be a smart move, maybe just go for 2 - 6 years or untill economy gets better.  we are livin in some tough times with all of thease layoffs and all.

The Navy is certainly a good career. I'm 23 years old, joined right out of high school, and it's certainly been good for me. Now I make more money than almost all of my high school friends who are college grads by now, and the education and experience that I've gained is invaluable.

The thing that most people have trouble with is just staying out of trouble. If you're smart, able to follow instructions, and work hard, you can do really well for yourself.

By the way, you can't join for anything less than 4 years.

quit talking and do it get in before they close the door ahead of you.  budget cuts will include the military too.  pick a career field thats fool proof

Going through something similar.  I would suggest hurrying up and joining.  The navy is steadily tightening its requirements (regarding waivers).  I just joined.  If you plan on not re-enlisting make sure you get into one of the advanced programs.
